I recently switched my mobile phone from O2 to 3. I soon discovered that certain websites are banned, in fact all "gay" sites which I've are inaccessible from my handset.
I called 3 to ask them why this was, and if they could remove the restriction, they said that certain sites are deemed unsuitable for children, and that if they ban these sites for one user they must be banned for all. I explained that I'm over 18 years of age, but they said they they couldn't remove the filters for just one user. When I asked if this was company policy (I got speaking to a supervisor), he said it was. This is despite the fact that other networks I've been with in past (O2 and Meteor) have never tried to dictate what I can and can't access on my handset.
As queerid.com is one of the blocked sites, I thought I should mention it here.

Thanks for that - thats bizarre. I bet they just have a general ban on anything deemed gay...

This is making me mad, what with this and the internet cafe on grafton st. It makes it seem like there is something wrong or nasty about anyhing gay.

I've fired off an email to 3. There's no reason why we should be blocked as we do not allow pornography or adult content. There may be a few risque pictures in profiles, but there is far more adult stuff on Bebo to be honest. We've also got in touch with the editor of GCN so hopefully he will contact 3 as well.

As a customer of 3, I certainly won't be impressed if we're not unblocked and will vote with my feet...

Am looking for a phone at the moment. Have scrubbed 3 off my list :-( It's not like they have many customers, you'd think they wouldn't want to alienate a big spending portion of the public...
