Hi Friends,
I have been an avid reader of the forums on queerid for about a year now and have never quite been able to muster the courage to post here but my experience on the scene, in particular in the G the past week has prompted me to vent on here and get some feedback and sympathy from my fellow queerid'ers.:)
As most of you who frequent the George know, there seems to be massive changes there among staff. A lot of the old managers have been replaced and also the security staff. Now I'm all for change as change is good but not when myself and my friends are discriminated against in a place which has been my second home for near on 5 years now.
On Thursday night I came to the door of the G and there were two guys in front of me being checked for id by some new doormen, these guys seeking entry arent friends of mine but Id know them to see as regulars on the scene. The doormen proceeded to question them where they were from and after informing the doormen they were from finglas and blanchardstown they were subseqently refused.
It was then my turn and again I was ID'd. They then asked me if I was gay!!! Now I understand that they have to control who they let in but to be asked so directly about my sexuality in this manner I was uncomfortable and embarrassed. After replying that I was indeed 'gay' they still went onto refuse me entry. I was too upset to argue so left and made my way to Front Lounge.
On Sat night again I returned to the G after the prom and luckily was permitted entry. I was waiting for friends inside when I got a call to say they had been refused due to not adhereing to the dress code. Both girls were wearing smart jeans, tees and converse trainers...virtually the attire of every lesbian in the G!!!
Inside the club that night was extremely odd as there seemed to be so many strange faces with a huge amount of straight couples and girls and the word among the crowd inside was a lot of regulars had been refused.
I dont understand how the George can allow new staff to take control of the venue without at least ensuring that their regular loyal customers are looked after and not made strangers in a place where most of us have been socialising in for years.
Before I make a formal complaint to Capital bars I just wanted to hear feedback from you guys to see if you had any similar experiences and if so what you think we need to do? I just want things to be the way they were before with going there and being made feel safe and welcome by the security and management!
Thanks for listening! I hope to be posting on here a lot more now!!
