The funny thing was though that at the end of the night there was a que trailing down the stairs just like it was 10 years ago, so in my view its just a little peice of history repeating itself.
Love it or hate it the G has been there longer than most people posting here have been on the scene, the doormen change, the bar staff change, the management change, and all we can hope is that it'll be here for a lot longer. No club in Dublin has engendered so much loyalty, so much gossip (mostly wrong), and I think that its a likely bet it'll be here getting us queers drunk (and laid) for many years to come. I love the George!
I second everything you say peevay , long may it continue , We all love our G

Was in on Sunday for The Bingo. Great Night. Thought the bouncers where very friendly and kept their distance during the show, so their presence isn't as in your face. They even said excuse me please, when squeezing through the packed bar! Good!

just to let you know guys that if you are discriminated against because you are gay or if your admittance to a publicly licensed premises is restricted because "security staff" question your sexuality then they are in breech of anti discrimination laws...it is illegal to discriminate against people who are minority race, gender, sexual orientation, member of the traveling community and so on...some links that might give you some info...arm yourself with information..http://www.justice.ie/en/JELR/Pages/Home www.equality.ie/index.asp ....make official complaints if this continues...also ask the security guys for their licence number...they must be licencedwww.psa.gov.ie/ hope this info helps ...

Well, after having some initial problems with the new door staff , I had no issues last weekend. Some girl came up to me in the G asking 'was I selling pills' the other night , so maybe the new staff thought like I looked like a drug dealer or something. They've obviously realised I'm just a slut and nothin' more ... and are happy to let me in now !

God bless the days when the two Johns and Michael were on the door of the George.
I was there last night and tried to get from Jurassic to the upstairs part with a a female friend when I was told by the doormen I wasn't allowd up with drink.
Whatever about this bureacratic rule it was the pig ignorant attitude of the two bouncers, particularly a rude tall skinhead guy, that really galled me.
My female friend told him there was no need to be such a pig (well she didnt say that but rude in general etc) and it was like water off a duck's back.
Thnen he said upstairs was "closed" - it was only 2.20am and when we said we needed to meet a friend in the smoking area he pointed to outside the door and said we could smoke there.
I get the attitude that these guerillas have never dealt with gay people and treat us with disdain.
Should there not be a screening of doormen on the George where we might get some gay friendly bouncers with manners and a likeability factor. And to cap it all off there was a dreadful, brutal fight outside the door at the end of the evening between two vicous queens. You could hear bones b eing crunched and calls of "bitches".
Oh dear :-(
