Howdy queens, This situation is really getting on my tits (so much so that I joined just to good long bitch about it lol)...both peoples reactions and the actually environment in the G. Capital Bars (in their infinite wisdom) decided to shake up their bars. Places hit included The G, Cafe en sein, zanzibar etc. In most cases they decided to get some new blood in and get rid of the old. This went from top to bottom. They cut away some "deadwood" as they saw it. It was in their opinion that the venue needed needed a shake up. So they changed their security and management. This may have worked in the straight venues.. It is by no means the manner in which to deal with the flag-ship gay club in Dublin. The staff need to know the scene and the regulars, it simply cant start a fresh. In clubs its the crowd that makes the scene. The G was made by the crowd. Which in turn was served by the friendly bar staff and monitored by the security staff and management. We've all seen people come and go but the core is always there and the key was that it was a permanent reliable core. The bar staff were all known to us to the point that you can call their names and they know your order. And in turn they trained in the newer part timers etc etc. If you've ever been in Brideys ( the jurrasic) you can see how this works. You give them a smile hold up your pint glass and say "same again pat". And under the new management I hope they keep this the same (but lower prices :P). The door staff at the end of the day are door staff. Despite how they can seem like arseholes (after 6hrs of the same drunkenness, abuse and questions everyone is the same) they say who goes in and goes out. The G has always had a permanent bunch of lads unlike other clubs who have agency lads every week. The senior bouncers had nearly 15 years between them. So they knew you and who was barred as they saw it every week. They also knew how to deal with drunken regulars and spot trouble a mile off. You cant buy that experience.. So either give the new lads a chance to develop their Gaydar. If not ask for their Name/PSA licence Number and tell management. If it persists get on to capital bars tell them that we dont like the changes (skangers in the club, dealers and drugs everywhere and disrespectful security) and deny them the pink dollar and go to F/Lounge or Panti.

Hi Hardcore, welcome to QID. Good post, some really good points. I would tend to agree. If it persists, go to Capital Bars, and then print off Panti's latest ad for her bar and show them. The gays will quite quickly and easily take their pink euro to somewhere gay owned, who know how to treat their clientele, offer cheaper drink prices! hello, this is not the time to be pissing off your regulars. I have noticed the changes in the George of late too. I haven't been affected by them but I can understand the frustration of those who have. I would not be impressed to be told all of a sudden I am suddenly not allowed in, having gone there most Thursdays, Fridays, and indeed Sundays for the past few years.

Why can't we just agree on a new venue, everyone then goes there and we make it gay. Somewhere nice and fancy, the toilets in the G remind me of my primary school. Perhaps the Morrison? We could just keep going every week until we call it the M and it's a totally gay hotel. With DJ Karen in a box in the corner (playing records if she so wishes). Either there or Madigans!

Hello to all I a regular to the George now for a number of years "a constant customer to Jurasic" am sickened by all this carry on. I have been attracted to the venue by the constant friendliness of the staff besides the fact that many of my friends drink here. I did not know of all these changes until a friend told me to read of things here and to put it bluntly I am truly upset. Being told by friends of the attitude of the "new door staff" and reading of events taking place I am just mind boggled that this could be allowed by the venue. I have been a chatterbox with the various doorstaff for a number of years knowin big john who worked there before and now michael and john these are all genteman who I have the highest respect for. I have seen the abuse they get working there but yet staying polite and friendly. I have seen michael and john rushing down the lane to asssist a customer in disstress by hooligans, traits that you dont see with every doorstaff. Off course I cant be saying that about all the staff now. Everyone is their own individual. Maybe all should give the new staff some time and a chance! This problem seems to be much more than just security! with everyone comlaining about drink prices and cover charge into a bar "might this be an attack on the gay scene?" Everyone should remember the pink pound is presious to be honest I personally feel greed is effecting the scene. We spend and it seems more is wanted. Thats the way the world goes. Great Idea Panti but its one thing drinking at a new bar its another thing not standing up against what we feel is wrong. We fight for equal rights but not for the little we have. There are not many gay bars arround and I will be damned if I dont stand up for what I believe in.

Security who work the George should be prepared to be chatted up and if they have a problem then they’re working the wrong venue.
I would expect that at the very least, some will be a fisherman’s friend.

Has capital bars really been notified on all these problems? and if so why not addressed? Has someone from gcn been notified of all these situations?

Still theres apparently some people really pis*ed at the whole situation. A whole lota fightin talkin talk goin on with prices and entry fees and new bouncers, kicking people out at 2:20 and the loss of the old team. I feel sorry for the students over the coming college year. I think the student entry is gone aswell and with increased registration fees coming in September... not too fun.
I really think that we should just start drinking at home more. I think I will. Its just so much cheaper.
