Some advice on upcoming Civil Partnership

    Started by dubgaz| 336 posts

Guys and Girls. Looking for some advice on the best approach for my upcomign Civil Partnership. After 14 years myself and my partner are biting the bullet and going to have a Civil Partnership this year.

We are hoping to have it on a Friday  3rd August as it is our 15 year anniversary on that day and we went to our local HSE office to find out what the procedure was. Anyway they only preform the ceremony in that office on a Wednesday. They also told us that they could preform the ceremony in a hotel on Friday 10th August but had no availability on Friday 3rd August.

The hotel we were looking at does not have availability on Aug 10th. So thinking outside the box we were looking at the idea of having a small ceremony in the HSE Office on the Wednesday (room only holds 14 people) and then having a blessing on Friday 3rd August (our anniversary) in a marquee in our back garden. We are lucky that by living in the country we have the space for a large marquee and we could have a party and not be disturbing the neighbours.

So this is where you guys come in. Do you know of anybody that preforms blessings or is there a website where I can see if somebody was available?

We still MIGHT have the ceremony in a hotel if the marquee idea becomes too expensive but either way we are probably going to have to go down the route of doing the legal stuff in the HSE office and then have somebody do the blessing on the 3rd Aug.

    Thanks

Hi there. Can you let me know which civil registration office you are talking about. I know some people in the registration service and will see if there are any more options for you. Patrick

Its the office in Cavan. We were out there on Tuesday and had a chat with a lovely lady there who is currently looking for dates that a registrar can be available for the service. She told us Aug 3rd is booked out but she is going to see what she can do.

Thanks for that link. To be honest though we want to have the ceremony in a place where we can have the meal and the after party all in the same place and perferably that would be in Cavan. We are hoping to invite around 120 people so wouldnt want the expense of catering for that many in Dublin. T

Thats why I thought the marquee would be a good idea. I got a great quote for a marquee that would hold 150 people (90 seated) and chairs, tables, erection (of the marquee) , sound system and insurance etc. €1500 in total and then we were going to just have  buffet type thing for the food. I do a bit of djing so was going to do all the mixing of the songs in the days leading up to the ceremony and just have them on a laptop ready to play through the soundsytem.

On the flip side though I have to think of the people who are travelling and whilst we could put up about 20 people in the house it would probably be better to have the whole thing in a hotel where we could all stay. Decisions, Decisions :)
