Are you able to spend long periods of time by yourself?

    Started by MrDave101| 463 posts

and by long periods of time I mean a couple of days. Personally I love spending time by myself, I think It's great just to chill out and reflect. I know quite a few people though who actually cannot spend 5 minutes without hanging out with someone or talking on the phone...Do you think It's healthy to have a persistent need to be talking with someone?

I'm not sure about a couple of days but I do like to take a day out once in a while, and do a complete communications shut down, potter around the gaff, writing ideas down, watching the Golden Girls, catching up on all those little bits and pieces that get overlooked. Think there is nothing better than taking a break from the outside world everyso often.

Will probably turn into a hermit by the time I'm 50!

If your definition of a long period is a couple of days then the answer is no, you can't go for long periods by yourself.

Ye I think that started to become a hermit over the past 12 months or so and I'm not 50 :( Alone time is great but becoming a hermit is not.

I'n quite private by nature, so there are days where I like just keeping the chat settings off on Facebook, coming home, and just reading a book or drawing something. There are also days in college where if I'm doing crafts I just put the headphones on and focus on my work, normally I'm quite social but I have my moments where I prefer to be left alone and focus on something. I can go about 2-3 days depending on my humour of not making contact with anyone, then I'll resurface.

I like having some alone time.

When I dislocated my shoulder around the start of November, I was housebound for almost 6 weeks. Saw no one apart from the people delivering my take aways or Tesco shopping {#Insert smilie}. I kept in touch with my family and friends obiviously, but becase of my injury I couldnt leave the house.  Cabin fever certainly set in at the end.

I live on my own most of the time, as my housemate works away in the UK so I tend to be on my own alot of the time.

I've overheard your theory "Nostalgia's for geeks"

Going a couple of days without interacting or talking to anyone doesn't bother me in the slightest but after about a week or two I might get bored by week three I pick up the phone to call someone ;)

Yes. To me it is heaven. The voices in my head are more than enough to be dealing with, never mind those of actual other human beings.
